“Omule : Hi Paula, can you tell me how everything started?”
“Paula : Well, I have always liked to draw, but I never practiced much and I stuck to simple doodles here and there (lots of animé when i was a teen too aahhaha). I stopped drawing altogether for 5 years and then I started again on 2017, just for fun. On 2018 I started to draw more consistenly and last October I made a habit of drawing everyday.”
“Omule : Nice. What is your ideal creative environment like? Do you have any kind of creative patterns and routines?”
“Paula : I don’t believe there’s a creative environment needed, I live in an ambient house and I don’t even have a desk. I believe that the most important thing is to push yourself to do things when you are not in the mood.
I struggle really hard to be productive and consistent, sometimes is hard because I get overwhelmed with things that I have to do. I try to wake up early, finish the work around the house and then dedicate all my time drawing. Between 12 and 15 I try to dedicate myself to my personal projects and then to commissions.”
“Omule : What kind of tools do you use?”
“Paula : For watercolors I use a pentel waterbrush (it’s a little old and the water don’t come out very well), watercolor paper (canson) and just recently I got an actual watercolor set (@prima_watercolor), but before that I used a really cheap one that was probably for kids anyway :))))
For digital drawings, I use Photoshop and a drawing tablet (wacom bamboo, it’s a dinosaur).”
“Omule : Most of your work is colorful and joyful. It has always been like that?”
“Paula : Color is something I struggle so much with, I never knew what colors to choose. With watercolors, now that I have a palette, it’s a little easier, but I still pair the wrong colors together, I should probably learn a little about color theory... In digital, it’s even harder, the screen of my computer shows me colors completely different than what they actually are, so from time to time in the process of a drawing I have to send myself screenshots on the phone.”
“Omule : Which artists do you think are crushing it right now?”
“Paula : Crushing as in the ones I like? Oh god I have like 500 favorite artists ahhaha but if I have to choose , I would say : heikala, imzeferino, ellievsbear, meyoco, m_atelier.”
“Omule : What superpower would you like to have and why?”
“Paula : Uhmmm superpower, this is super obsessive, but I’ll say stopping time, so I can do all the stuff I just don’t have enough time doing. Ahahha I would read, sleeeep, draw, and probably escape my responsibilities for an eternity,”
“Omule : What would be a great achievement for you?”
“Paula : I would say I have achieved a lot of small stuff that I’m so grateful for, because it has brought me here. For the future I would love to be able to make a living while illustrating children books <3.”
